About the event
Fun on the Farm is a permanent exhibit at the Sanpete County Fair, created by Calan Olsen following a suggestion from his grandfather, Steve Frischknecht. This interactive agricultural exhibit educates visitors on how food travels from the farm to the table.
Visitors begin at the first building, where they don an apron and receive a basket. They then move through the exhibit’s various buildings, each focusing on a different farm animal. Along the way, they collect products such as milk, honey, bacon, fruit, or vegetables. Each building offers unique activities like cow milking, holding a Madagascar Hissing cockroach, branding a cow, and carding wool. The collected products are exchanged at the market for a Fun on the Farm dollar, which can be spent at the store for a treat or prize.
Initially, Fun on the Farm featured eight buildings and was located in a temporary lawn area. Over the years, a market and insect building were added, and the exhibit was moved to a permanent location with new signage, building siding, sidewalks, lawns, sprinklers, and fencing. Future plans include adding a silo and siding to the remaining buildings.
Fun on the Farm will be open again this year. Children in second grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult. The exhibit is situated inside the fairgrounds behind the swimming pool and is free for everyone. Annually, approximately 2,000 people visit the exhibit.
This project is funded through donations. We have plaques displaying the names of our Bronze, Silver, and Gold donors. For donations of $100 or more, your name can be added to one of these plaques.
